LESSON ONE
"I Sit. I Breathe. I Meditate.:
Beginning a Practice
Why Meditate?
Have you ever tried to meditate?
Have you even asked yourself the question – “Why meditate?”
The answer is really very simple: Because it feels great, and it is good for you!
Not only does it feel good – you’ll will miss it when you skip it.
Meditation makes you calmer and less reactive. As time goes by, you’ll notice you are more patient, compassionate, and accepting of others. But most importantly, you become more accepting of yourself and your life circumstances.
If you keep meditating, you will notice yourself become happier, more joyous, and eventually, even ecstatic.
I don’t know about you – but that sounds like a very good plan to me, and a perfect reason to meditate!
Meditation will make you more focused and mindful in all you do. You will discover you are more expansive and connected to everything and everyone.
There are many reasons why meditation is good for you. Just give it a try for one week – better yet – one month - and see if it doesn’t make a difference in your life!
Throughout this course, I will share with you my own meditation and life journey.
Like many of you, I was a professional woman with a family and many responsibilities and juggling all of that was a challenge. I don’t need to explain that to you. I know YOU know what it’s all about.
I had meditated before life got more complicated, and then I let go of it for a while. Luckily, I picked it up again and then went much deeper into my practice as the years went by. It took a lot of time and effort to learn everything I know today.
I am going to distill the essence of what worked for me over the years. I don’t want you to have to dabble. You don’t have the time for that. I get it. Your time for yourself is precious and I don’t want to waste that.
Everything in this course is designed to be manageable. All you need is a few minutes every day. Eventually, you will dedicate more of your time to practicing simply because you will want to and because it becomes important to you. You’ll see and experience changes in yourself as well.
I don’t need to convince you here of that. Give yourself a few minutes every day and you will see and understand what I’m saying. Just set that time aside now and start. You are worth every minute you set aside for yourself.
Reflection/Journaling Questions:
What does meditation mean to you? How do you define it?
Have you tried it before? Why or why not?
What has worked for you? What hasn’t?
How do you like to relax? What seems to settle you, make you calmer and more centered?
