Be Still and Sit

How do I meditate?

All you need to do to begin meditating is to be still…

And sit…

How do I sit?

Sit anyway that is comfortable. The important thing is that your spine is straight.

In the beginning, it might be helpful to sit cross- legged against a wall. Or, sit in a chair with a straight back. Padded folding chairs are readily available and inexpensive and very good for this. Resting your feet on the floor enables you to feel more grounded. Eventually, you want to make sure you sit with a straight and unsupported back. It will come in time… For now, just begin by sitting comfortably.

How I sit has changed and evolved over the years as I have accommodated injuries and limitations. What is important is to maintain a straight back and be comfortable.

If that is not possible, then adapt your sitting in a way that you are comfortable and won’t be concerned with how you are sitting. Use any kind of padding, blankets, or pillows if they help you to achieve a degree of comfort.

Remember: Only you know what is best for you.
